The licence
Why gas work needs a licensed gas fitter (not just a plumber)
In Queensland, gas work is a separate licence from plumbing, issued under the Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act. A plumber without a gas licence cannot legally connect a cooktop, a hot water unit or a bottle, and any work done without one is uninsured and can't be certified. When you're getting quotes, ask for the gas work licence number. We'll show you ours before we start.
Holding both licences also means we don't have to split a job between two trades. Gas hot water, a kitchen renovation, a new outdoor kitchen: the plumbing and the gas get done together.

Install and connect new gas cooktops and ovens, replace old ones, convert an electric kitchen to gas where a supply exists, and run a new gas point to wherever the cooktop is going in a renovation. Every connection is pressure tested and certified.

LPG bottle installations and changeovers
A lot of the Gold Coast isn't on mains gas, so the house runs on two 45kg LPG bottles with an automatic changeover regulator. We install and relocate bottle cages, fit regulators and pigtails, and set up the changeover so you don't run out mid-shower. We also convert appliances between natural gas and LPG where the manufacturer allows it.
New gas lines, extensions and relocations
Running a new line for a renovation, extending the existing line to an outdoor area, or relocating the meter or bottles because of a new fence, deck or extension. Copper or approved pex-al-pex, buried to code, sleeved where it needs to be, tested before it's covered.
Leak detection, testing and repairs
Pressure testing the whole system to find a leak, replacing corroded fittings, fixing a regulator that's failed, and clearing a gas appliance that's been condemned by the network until it's repaired and recertified.

Gas for renovations and outdoor living
Two jobs come up constantly on the Coast. The first is the kitchen renovation where the cooktop moves. Moving a gas point isn't just extending a pipe: the line has to be resized if more appliances are being added, isolation valves have to end up somewhere reachable, and the whole run is pressure tested before the cabinetry goes in. Get us in at the same time as the plumbing rough-in, before the tiler and the joiner, and it's a small job. After the benchtop's on, it isn't.
The second is the outdoor kitchen or alfresco. A fixed bayonet point on the deck means the BBQ runs off the house supply, no more swap bottles, and a built-in outdoor kitchen with a cooktop and a fridge can be plumbed and gassed as a proper installation. Outdoor gas has its own rules for clearances, ventilation and weather protection, and appliances have to be rated for outdoor use. We handle the gas, the water and the drainage for the outdoor sink on the one visit.

Not sure which you've got? Bottles in a cage at the side of the house means LPG. A meter box with a network dial and no bottles means mains. If you're building or renovating in Helensvale, Pacific Pines or Upper Coomera, check the network availability before you spec gas appliances, because a lot of those estates are LPG only.

Paperwork
Gas compliance: what you get and when you need it
Every piece of gas work in Queensland has to be certified. After we finish, you get a gas compliance certificate (the Form 4 lodged with the regulator) and a compliance plate or label on the installation. You need this for:
- Selling the house (the buyer's conveyancer will ask)
- Renting the property (landlord obligations)
- Insurance claims involving a gas appliance
- Council or body-corporate approval on a renovation or commercial fit-out
- Reconnecting supply after the network has isolated the property
If a previous fitter never gave you one, we can inspect, test and certify the existing installation.
The process
What a gas install involves
Assess the appliance, the supply (mains or LPG), the run and what's needed for airflow and clearances.
Quote in writing before anything is touched.
Run or modify the line, sized correctly so every appliance gets full pressure with everything on at once.
Connect the appliance with the correct fitting, regulator and isolation valve.
Pressure test the whole system and leak test every joint.
Commission the appliance, check the flame, set the regulator, check flue and ventilation.
Certify and hand over the paperwork, then tidy up.

Gas appliance servicing
Gas appliances should be serviced about every two years, more often for heaters and older continuous flow hot water units. A service covers cleaning burners and injectors, checking the flame picture and gas pressure, inspecting flues and ventilation, testing safety devices like flame failure and thermocouples, and leak testing every connection. A yellow or lazy flame, soot marks, a pilot that keeps going out, or an appliance that smells when it's running are all reasons to book one sooner. For rentals and commercial premises, a service record is part of the compliance file.

Five gas safety tips for Gold Coast homes
Check your bottle date. LPG cylinders have a test date stamped on the collar and can't be refilled once it's expired. Swap bottles handle this for you; owned bottles don't.
Keep the bottle cage clear. Nothing stored against it, no ignition sources within a metre, and don't box it in with a new fence.
Don't use an outdoor heater or BBQ indoors or in a closed alfresco. Carbon monoxide doesn't smell.
Get gas appliances serviced every two years. Especially heaters and older continuous flow units.
Replace flexible BBQ hoses when they crack. They live in the sun on the Coast and don't last.

No. In Queensland gas work requires a separate gas work licence. Work done without one is illegal, uninsured and can't be certified. We hold both licences.
