Commercial plumbing is a different job to fixing a tap at home. A blocked stack in a unit block affects twelve apartments. A failed hot water unit in a café shuts the kitchen. A stormwater main on a subdivision has to be laid to survey and pass inspection before the road goes down. This page covers who we work for, what we deliver, the compliance items your site has to stay on top of, and how we get the work done around your tenants, customers and program.

Same crew, same standard

Walter & Co is a licensed plumber and gas fitter based in Helensvale with more than 20 years on the tools. Alongside residential work, we run civil drainage, stormwater and services trenching on Gold Coast subdivisions and commercial sites, and look after unit blocks and hospitality venues across the Coast. Same crew, same standard: on time, done to code, tidy.

Who we help

Who we work with

Body corporates and strata

Shared stacks, common-property mains, car park drainage, roof and balcony stormwater, hot water plant, backflow devices and the paperwork that goes with them. We report in writing after every job so the committee and the manager have a record, and we're used to coordinating access across multiple lots.

Cafés, restaurants, gyms and retail

Fit-outs, grease traps and arrestors, commercial gas connections, hot water sized for the kitchen, dishwasher and glasswasher connections, and the breakdown at 6am on a Saturday. We know what a day of lost trade costs, so we prioritise venues and carry the parts to get you open.

Builders and developers

New builds, unit developments, commercial fit-outs and refurbishments: rough-in, drainage, water services, gas, hot water plant, fixture fit-off and certification. We work to your program and turn up on the days we're booked.

Civil and subdivision contractors

Stormwater mains, water mains, sewer reticulation, drainage pits and risers, services trenching and conduit. Laid to design, surveyed, inspected and backfilled. Our own excavation gear, so we're not waiting on a subbie.

Property and facilities managers

A plumber you can send tenants to, a maintenance schedule so the same emergencies stop happening, and one number that answers 24/7. See the maintenance section below.

Venues

Hospitality: keeping the kitchen open

A café or restaurant plumbing failure has a clock on it. Blocked kitchen drain, hot water down, gas appliance condemned, dishwasher not draining: every hour is lost covers. We treat venue calls as priority, come with the parts and the jetter, and work around service where we can. On fit-outs we size the hot water for the real load (a commercial dishwasher and a glasswasher on top of the sinks changes everything), connect the grease arrestor correctly so trade waste approval goes through, and certify all the gas so the lease file is complete from day one. If you're taking over an existing venue, a plumbing and gas inspection before you sign is money well spent. Most of the nasty surprises we find in venues were inherited.

Builders

Working with builders

For new builds and fit-outs, we quote from the plans, attend the site meeting, and lock in rough-in and fit-off dates against your program. Rough-in includes all drainage, water and gas runs, pressure tested and inspected before slab or wall close-up. Fit-off happens once the joiner and tiler are through, and includes every fixture, tempering and backflow devices, hot water plant and gas commissioning. Certification is lodged and copies sent to you for the handover file. If the program moves, tell us and we'll move with it. If we hit something on site that changes the scope, you'll hear about it the same day, in writing, with a price.

Compliance

Compliance a commercial site has to manage

Commercial premises carry compliance items most residential owners never see. Missing one can void insurance, fail a lease audit or get a venue shut. This is what we manage for clients.

Civil work

Civil drainage and stormwater: what we deliver

The gallery on our home page shows the kind of civil work we run: stormwater mains and pits set in trench on subdivisions, water mains laid alongside, electrical and stormwater conduit runs, gas and service trenching, and reinforced slabs ready for pour. On a civil job you get:

  • Trenching and excavation to design depth and grade, with our own machines
  • Concrete and PVC stormwater mains, pits, risers and grates, set to survey
  • Sewer and water main reticulation and connections
  • Services conduit and joint trenching for power, comms and gas
  • Compaction and backfill to specification
  • Inspections booked and passed before cover
  • As-constructed information for your records

Wet subgrade

If the site itself is holding water, we design and install the subsoil drainage to lower the water table under the base course, because a road or hardstand on wet subgrade fails no matter what goes on top.

On site

How we minimise disruption

  1. Plan around trade. For venues we work before opening, after close or on the quiet day. For unit blocks we notify residents in advance and isolate only what needs isolating.
  2. Diagnose before we dig. CCTV and leak detection first, so we open the smallest area possible.
  3. Carry the parts. Commercial fittings, valves, common hot water units and gas components on the van, so a breakdown isn't a two-visit job.
  4. One trade for plumbing and gas. No coordinating a second contractor for a kitchen or plant room.
  5. Report in writing. Every job comes with a summary of what was found, what was done and what to watch.
  6. Leave the site clean and safe. Barriers up while we work, everything reinstated before we leave.

Ongoing care

Maintenance agreements

For body corporates, venues and property managers, a maintenance arrangement covers scheduled backflow testing, TMV servicing, hot water plant checks, stormwater and drain inspections before the wet season, and priority response for emergencies at an agreed rate. It turns unplanned breakdowns into planned visits, and it keeps the compliance register current so nothing gets missed at audit. Tell us the site and we'll put a schedule together.

Planned, not panicked

Scheduled visits, a current compliance register and a number that answers when something does go wrong.

From the crew

Five things that catch commercial sites out

  1. Backflow testing lapsing. Gold Coast Water requires annual test reports on registered devices, and missed tests get followed up.
  2. Grease traps that haven't been pumped. The first sign is a blocked kitchen drain on a Friday night.
  3. Stormwater pits full of leaf litter ahead of the first summer storm.
  4. Hot water plant with no redundancy. One unit down and the whole building's cold. Banked continuous flow units solve it.
  5. Gas work done without a compliance certificate by a previous contractor. It shows up at lease renewal or sale.

Where we work

Commercial work across the Gold Coast

From our base in Helensvale we cover the whole Coast. Civil and subdivision work takes us through the growth corridor around Coomera, Pimpama and Upper Coomera, where new estates are still going in. Body corporate and unit block work is concentrated through Surfers Paradise, Paradise Waters, Southport and Runaway Bay, and hospitality fit-outs and breakdowns through Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Burleigh Heads and Robina. One of our Paradise Waters car park leak jobs is still the review most commercial clients mention when they call.

If you're a manager or contractor searching for a commercial plumber near me on the northern Gold Coast, or the best plumber Helensvale has for a site that can't afford downtime, call and tell us the site.
